The four birds, the poor birds, swoop and dive

As the liquid snakes the vessel to a lighter line

Then one fish, a young fish, leaps and dives
His gills agasp for air inside

Behind my spine, the figures are turning
Their heads to prey on wildflower finds
Between each page, keepsakes for learning
We take what we need, life over life
